Traumatic Experience for all of us!

So we had a big scare this afternoon. Andrew and Alexander climbed to the highest rung of a 6 ft (Little Giant) ladder. We had placed in the grass, just in case, because they love to climb. I was sitting out watching them, putting together my Bo Peep Halloween costume for a party this evening, when suddenly Andrew fell all the way down to the ground and started screaming. I grabbed him and ran for the phone to call for help - John was not home. There was blood everywhere. I think poor Alexander, as he stood there watching it all, was in shock and didn't know what to make of it. Our neighbor came over to help, but by then I had gotten the wound to stop bleeding and had Andrew calm on the couch eating m&ms and watching cartoons until John could get home.
John stayed home with Zander and I took Andrew to the Kaiser minor injury clinic. We got right in to see the doctor.
I felt like such an irresponsible parent as they asked me how his accident occured and how tall the ladder was. Luckily Andrew was running around, talking, smiling, acting very normal. The doctor cleaned him up - that was quite an ordeal, but he was immediately happy when it was all over. The doctor said usually they do a catscan when someone falls at least twice the distance of their height (Andrew's distance was 3-4 times that!), but since there were no signs of trauma and he was acting completely normal, we decided to forgo the scan. We do need to keep a watchful eye on him for the next 3 days and wake him every 2 hours to make sure he doesn't loose consciousness.

  1. What a scary story! I'm glad he is ok. They can really scare the daylights out of you, can't they :).
